Whats that listening device called?

I'm looking for a listening device that amplifies sound. All I can find are things like telephone bugs etc. I'm looking for something that I can sit outside, or a few rooms away and listen in, the thing that springs to mind is something I see in the movies. It's a headset attached to what looks like a little satellite thing, the amplifier, that they point in the direction they want to hear
